We recently received the tragic news that a violent storm destroyed the roof of our learning center in Aweil. The news was tough to take. While we have all faced unprecedented challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, the people of South Sudan have faced unfathomable challenges over the past several years - ongoing violence, flooding, and the resulting population displacement, locust swarms, chronic food shortages and famine and the pandemic have magnified the chronic vulnerability in South Sudan
The roof was a special roof. Under the roof, many Sudanese women, children, and men learned how to read and write. Under the roof, thousands of meals were distributed during the famine and pandemic. And the roof was notable for another reason – it had solar panels that served as the only source of electricity to the town.
In the words of William Mou, a Lost Boy who settled and was educated in the US, but chose to return to South Sudan to become Director of the center, "The center meant a lot to our community especially the programs that are operating in, have changed life to our society. Therefore, there's need to be renovated as soon as possible". We post this to humbly as for your help to give this Sudanese community hope. You can give easily with the "donate" button on the top right of our website; if monetary donations are not possible at this time, prayers for hope in this community are greatly appreciated.
